Lady Lions pick up several honors

UNIVERSITY PARK — Penn State women’s basketball freshman player Maddie Burke was named the Big Ten Sixth Player of the Year on Monday.

In addition, she also earned a spot on the All-Freshman Team, while senior Johnasia Cash and sophomore Makenna Marisa both earned All-Big Ten accolades, the conference office announced Monday evening.

Burke averaged 8.3 points per-game and 3.4 rebounds-per game coming off the bench. She was second in the country in Division I in 3-pointers made this year.

Additionally, graduate student Kelly Jekot was named Penn State’s recipient of the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award.

Cash was named second-team All-Big Ten. She averaged 14.0 points-per game this season. Marisa received Honorable Mention status. She averaged 13.7 points-per game this year.
