Lions’ secondary coach hired by UT

From Mirror reports

UNIVERSITY PARK — There will be another change on the Penn State football coaching staff.

Co-defensive coordinator and safeties coach Tim Banks will reportedly join Josh Heupel’s staff at Tennessee as the defensive coordinator, according to Pete Thamel of Yahoo Sports.

Tennessee hired Heupel as its new head coach earlier this year away from Central Florida, after the university fired coach Jeremy Pruitt.

Banks has spent five seasons in Happy Valley and has prior coaching experience at Central Michigan, Cincinnati and Illinois.

Neither Tennessee nor Penn State has confirmed the move.

Banks is the third Nittany Lion coach to leave during the offseason.

Offensive coordinator Kirk Ciarrocca was dismissed after one season and replaced by Mike Yurcich. Tight ends coach Tyler Bowen left for the NFL to join Urban Meyer in Jacksonville, and was replaced by Ty Howle.
