Neil Rudel’s take: In what would be Engle’s final season, the Lions lost three games on the last play — UCLA (24-22), California (21-17) and Pitt (30-27) — to finish 5-5. College football implemented a change to allow unlimited substitution, meaning players no longer had to go both ways. Engle’s final game was a 19-7 win at Maryland. He wound up with a PSU record of 108-48-4 that, coupled with his success at Brown, earned him a spot in the College Football Hall of Fame.
