Neil Rudel’s take: It was Bedenk’s first and only season as head coach. He felt more comfortable as the school’s head baseball coach, a position he held from 1931-62. Bedenk (pronounced bed-dink) had been a football assistant under Bob Higgins and accepted an assistant’s role under the incoming head football coach, Rip Engle. Athletic scholarships were restored after being eliminated in 1927.
