UNIVERSITY PARK — Penn State women’s basketball head coach Carolyn Kieger has announced the addition of five newcomers, two transfers and three incoming freshmen, who will join the Lady Lions ahead of the 2020-21 season.
Niya Beverley will join the team after playing three years at Wisconsin. Britnay Gore comes to Happy Valley after two seasons at Cleveland State, Constance Thomas and Mekkena Boyd will join Penn State as freshmen. Sabel, Thomas and Boyd will make the fifth, sixth and seventh members of the freshmen class, joining the four highly-touted signees — Maddie Burke, Kaci Donovan, Nan Garcia and Leilani Kapinus — that were signed last November.
“We are thrilled to welcome these five new members to our Penn State family,” Kieger said. “Each of these young ladies will be fantastic additions as people, students, and players. They will all exemplify our core values and represent our program with pride. We are excited to get them to campus to start working towards building our future.”
Beverly, a 5-foot-7 guard, averaged nearly 7 points per game at Wisconsin. Boyd led her high school, Champlain Valley Union, to two Vermont state titles. Gore, a 6-foot-2 forward, was a two-time all-conference player while at Cleveland State.
She averaged 13.5 points-per game. Sabel, a 5-foot-10 guard, averaged 10.8 points per game for her team in Sweden. Thomas, a 5-foot-9 guard, totaled 1,345 points in 81 games in her high school career at Camp Jewell Academy in Florida.
