Penn State men set to host Bucknell, Yale

UNIVERSITY PARK — Two home games as part of the NIT Season Tip-off event are confirmed for the nonconference portion of the Penn State men’s basketball schedule.

The Nittany Lions will play host to Bucknell on Tuesday, Nov. 19 and Yale on Saturday, Nov. 23 in the Bryce Jordan Center.

Announced earlier this year, Penn State will play in the NIT Season Tip-off with two games in the Barclays Center Wednesday, Nov. 27 and Friday, Nov. 29. Mississippi, Oklahoma State and Syracuse are the three possible opponents for the semifinals and finals of this tournament.

Rugby players in spotlight

HOLLIDAYSBURG — Three boys — Gus Dellinger, Sam Haines and Trent Paddock — and one girl — Aubrie Sipes — rugby player from the local Blair United/Hollidaysburg Rugby teams will be representing Pennsylvania in a multi-state tournament in Springfield, Mass. this weekend.

The Northeast RCT will have teams from New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut and Metropolitan New York playing varsity and junior varsity teams for boys and girls.

Sipes will be playing for the junior varsity Rugby PA girls team as a prop.

Dellinger Haines and Paddock will represent Rugby PA boys varsity team. All three will start.

Lions at NHL camps

UNIVERSITY PARK — Penn State is well represented across the NHL with 10 current players, two former players and one incoming freshman set to tone their skills with NHL clubs.

Returning draft picks Cole Hults (LA), Evan Barratt (Chicago) and Aarne Talvitie (NJ) along with recent draftee and incoming freshman Kevin Wall (Carolina) will each travel to their respective development camps this summer while 2018-19 captain Chase Berger (Pittsburgh) and Penn State all-time leading goal scorer Andrew Sturtz (Ottawa) are currently participating with the clubs they signed with after leaving Hockey Valley.

The Nittany Lions also sent a trio of players to New York Islanders camp — Liam Folkes, Peyton Jones and Sam Sternschein. Last season’s leading point getter, Alex Limoges, is currently in Detroit at Red Wings camp, and 2019-20 captain Brandon Biro is at Penguins camp with Berger.

Nate Sucese (Boston) and Paul DeNaples (Vancouver) round out the Nittany Lion representation across the league this summer.


n Penn State men’s volleyball’s Brett Wildman is set to compete for the USA Volleyball 12-man roster that will compete in the 2019 World University Games in Napoli, Italy July 3-14.

n Penn State rising sophomore William Lulek will represent his native Sweden swimming at the 30th Summer World University Games in Napoli, Italy, July 4-10.
