Nittany Lions roll to victory

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The No. 1-ranked Penn State wrestling team took care of CSU Bakersfield in the first of two California dual meets for the Nittany Lions late Saturday night. Coach Cael Sanderson’s squad won nine of 10 bouts to roll to a 39-3 win.

Redshirt freshmen Shakur Rasheed and Bo Nickal picked up big wins to lead Penn State.

Rasheed dominated No. 13 Adam Fierro, storming to a 6-0 win with 3:17 in riding time at 165. The victory gave Penn State a 21-0 lead at the midway point.

Nickal, ranked No. 8 at 174, pinned No. 16 Bryce Hammond, a returning All-American, in 1:57.

Penn State visits No. 18 Stanford at 4 p.m. today.

Titans defeat Tomahawks

JOHNSTOWN – The New Jersey Titans used a two-goal first period to defeat the Johnstown Tomahawks 4-1 Saturday night at the Cambria County War Memorial Arena.

Rya Glander stopped 25 of 29 New Jersey shots in the loss. Spencer Wright picked up his fourth win of the season for the Titans, stopping 29 shots.

The Tomahawks close out their weekend series against New Jersey with Scout Day and Indiana County Day today at 3 p.m. at the War Memorial.
