Steelers sign first-round pick Burns

PITTSBURGH – The Steelers signed their first-round selection, cornerback Artie Burns, on Wednesday.

Financial terms of the four-year deal were not disclosed.

Burns (6-foot, 197 pounds), who was the 25th overall pick, played collegiately at the University of Miami. He started 23-of-36 games played and finished his Hurricane career with 93 tackles, 14 pass breakups, seven interceptions, one forced fumble and a fumble recovery. Burns led the Atlantic Coast Conference with six interceptions in 2015, the most by a Hurricane since 2003 (Sean Taylor, 10), en route to earning All-ACC second-team honors.

Burns is the sixth of the Steelers’ seven selections from the 2016 NFL Draft to sign with the team.

Camp schedule announced

PITTSBURGH – The Steelers announced their complete 2016 training camp schedule.

For the 51st consecutive year, the Steelers will hold training camp at Saint Vincent College in Latrobe. The team will report on Thursday, July 28.

Pittsburgh will have 14 total practices that are open to the public, with the first one taking place on Friday, July 29. The team’s first padded practice will take place on Sunday, July 31.

On Friday, Aug. 5, the Steelers will hold their annual night practice at Latrobe Memorial Stadium at 7 p.m. The Steelers’ final practice open to the public will be on Tuesday, Aug. 16.

In addition, the Steelers and Detroit Lions will participate in joint practice sessions Aug. 9-10.

Team inks LB

PITTSBURGH – The Steelers signed free agent linebacker Mike Reilly, the team announced.

A product of William & Mary, Reilly signed with the Cleveland Browns as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2015 and was with the team through training camp and the preseason before being released on Sept. 5.

Most recently, Reilly signed a reserve/future Contract with the Arizona Cardinals, but was released on May 9.

In his four seasons at William & Mary (2011-14), Reilly totaled 135 tackles and 27 sacks. He also earned second-team All-America honors following his senior season and third team after his junior year.

To make room for Reilly, the team released linebacker Kevin Anderson.
