Tigers take care of Pirates

BRADENTON, Fla. — Pitchers Sean Poppen and Max Kranick combined to give up five runs as the Pittsburgh Pirates lost 6-1 to the Detroit Tigers Tuesday in Grapefruit League action.

Todd Frazier went deep for the Pirates for their only run, this one in the fourth inning. Ke’Bryan Hayes doubled for the second game in a row for the Bucs.

J.T. Brubaker started for the Pirates, giving up one earned run on one hit in one inning of work. He struck out one and walked no one.

Poppen gave up three earned runs on four hits in one inning. Kranick gave up two earned runs in one inning on one hita nd two walks. Braeden Ogle struck out two in one scoreless inning, as did Cody Ponce.

The Pirates are at Tampa Bay today. Steven Brault is expected to start. Other pitchers who will see time are Miguel Yajure, Nick mears, Carson Fulmer, James Marvel and Shea Spitzbarth.
