Pirates tweak roster
The Pirates added top third base prospect Ke’Bryan Hayes to their 40-man roster Wednesday, along with first baseman Will Craig, shortstop O’Neil Cruz and pitchers Blake Cederlind and Cody Ponce.
To make room on the 40-man roster, the Bucs designated for assignment pitchers Dario Agrazal, Montana DuRapau, Luis Escobar and Williams Jerez.
Wednesday was the deadline for teams to set their 40-man rosters for the winter, with players not protected being eligible for the Rule 5 draft.
Hayes has been the best defensive third baseman in all the minor leagues the past three years, winning three consecutive Gold Glove Awards. Craig won a Gold Glove for the first time this past season at Triple-A Indianapolis and is the top power-hitting threat in the Pirates’ upper minor league system.
