Penn State Lions beat Washington Huskies by three points on Wednesday night

SEATTLE — Freddie Dilione V scored 16 points, Josh Reed added 14, and Penn State beat Washington 63-60 on Wednesday night.
Kayden Mingo had 13 points and Eli Rice scored 13 for Penn State.
The Nittany Lions (11-14, 2-12 Big Ten) had lost back-to-back games and 10 of their last 11.
Franck Kepnang was called for goaltending on a layup by Mingo to give the Nittany Lions a 61-59 lead with 1:22 left in the game. Zoom Diallo’s short jumper rolled on the rim before falling out, Mingo missed the front end of a 1-and-1 and Hannes Steinbach split a pair of free throws before Rice hit two foul shots to cap the scoring with 20.1 remaining.
Wesley Yates III missed a potential tying 3-point shot at the buzzer.
Steinbach had 19 points and 14 rebounds and extended his program record for double-doubles by a freshman to 16, the second most in the Big Ten since the 1996-97 season. Isaiah Stewart set the previous Huskies’ record of 14 in 2019-20 and Ohio State’s Jared Sulliger had 18 double-doubles in 2010-11.
Yates added 11 points on 5-of-15 shooting for Washington (12-13, 4-10), which has lost three games in a row and seven of nine.
Kepnang threw down a dunk that gave the Huskies a two-point lead with 2:44 to play, but the went 0 for 3 from the field and committed two turnovers from there.

Big late run by FDU dooms Saint Francis
HACKENSACK, N.J. — Saint Francis dropped a 66-59 decision to Fairleigh Dickinson on the road in Northeast Conference play on Thursday night as SFU ended a four-game road trip.
Chris Moncrief paced four Red Flash players in double figures with 14 points, while Gestin Liberis (13 points), Skylar Wicks (11 points), and Ahmad Harrison (10 points) also reached double figures.
The last time these two teams met, Paris Papadatos hit a buzzer-beater to give Saint Francis an 85-82 victory at DeGol Arena on January 4. The Knights had a big run at the end of the game to ensure there were no heroics in this one.
After the Red Flash took a 42-38 edge, FDU went on an 18-5 run to take the lead they would not relinquish.
SFU cut it to four points with 3:40 left, but could not get any closer the rest of the way.
The Red Flash started the second half on a 17-7 run to take its first lead of the night at 42-38 with 14:09 left in the second half as Moncrief and Liberis powered the spurt with five points each.
Trailing 16-4, the Red Flash went on a 14-5 run to cut the margin to 21-18 with 5:19 left in the first half.
Zion Russell powered the surge with five points while Moncrief added four points.
Saint Francis then closed the half by scoring six of the last eight points to go into the locker room trailing 29-25.

Lady Lions fall on road to No. 20 Terrapins
COLLEGE PARK, Md. — Yarden Garzon led with 19 points, four other Terrapins scored in double figures, and No. 20 Maryland took down Penn State 81-62 on Thursday night.
Oluchi Okananwa (15 points), Addi Mack (13), Saylor Poffenbarger (10), and Mir McLean (10) each chipped in for the Terrapins (20-6, 8-6 Big Ten), who won their third straight game.
Poffenbarger hauled in 11 rebounds and had five assists in her third double-double of the season, and Okananwa dished six assists and tied her career-high with six steals.
Maryland led 38-34 at the half, shooting 46% fro the field but just 17% from beyond the arc. An 11-0 run early in the third quarter put them up double figures, and the Terrapins opened the fourth with a 13-3 run that put the game out of reach.
Kiyomi McMiller racked up 30 points on 12-of-26 shooting for the Lady Lions (8-17, 1-13), her third straight game with 30 or more points.
Maryland joins No. 2 UCLA, No. 7 Michigan, No. 8 Ohio State, and No. 13 Michigan State as 20-win teams in the Big Ten.
