Pitt loses Cummings for rest of season

PITTSBURGH — The Pitt men’s basketball team announced that leading scorer Brandin Cummings will miss the remainder of the season following a successful ankle procedure.
Cummings played in 19 games during the season, starting nine times and leading the Panthers at 12.5 points per game.
The sophomore guard scored a career-high 34 points against Hofstra, including 30 in the second half, to set a program record for points off the bench in a single game.
The Panthers play next at home on Saturday with a 2 p.m. tipoff against Notre Dame.
Not enough offense for Red Flash men
LORETTO — Despite five players finishing in double figures, the Saint Francis men’s basketball team dropped a heart-breaking 91-89 decision to Long Island in a Northeast Conference matchup Thursday night.
The Red Flash, now 6-21 overall and 4-10 in the NEC, were led by Skylar Wicks with 25 points, followed by Victor Payne with 23, Chris Moncrief with 11 and 10 each from Gestin Liberis and Paris Papadatros.
Long Island, which improved to 19-9 overall and 13-2 in the NEC, good enough for first place, got all five of its starters in double figures, led by Malachi Davis with 20 points. Jamal Fuller, Jomo Goings and Greg Gordon each contributed 18 points while Mason Porter-Brown chipped in with 15 points.
The Red Flash host Wagner Saturday at 2 p.m.

LIU duo too much for SFU women
LONG ISLAND, NY — Janessa Williams scored 29 points to go with 20 from teammate Kadidia Toure in a 74-59 win over Saint Francis Thursday night in Northeast Conference women’s college basketball action.
LIU, now 17-8 overall and 12-2 in the NEC, led 39-20 at halftime.
The Red Flash, who fell to 2-23 overall and 2-12 in the legue, got 13 points from Sonia Sato and 12 off the bench from Cassandra Hawthorne.
The SFU women are at Wagner on Saturday.
