BELLEFONTE — Tyrone graduate Ashton Walk enjoyed a special connection with his fellow Golden Eagle Trent Adams.

The two enjoyed one last special moment on the field together in the first quarter as Walk launched a 24-yard touchdown for the first score of Friday night’s Lezzer Lumber Classic at Bellefonte High School’s Rogers Stadium.

“That was pretty sick,” Walk said after winning the South squad’s MVP award. “He transferred in this year and was a huge help for our team. I got to play one more time with him, so that was pretty cool.”

Walk was involved in three of the South’s scores, including a run and another touchdown pass. Tyrone alum Seth Hoover accounted for the other South score.

It was a back-and-forth affair that ultimately turned on an interception, though, by DuBois’ Nathan Kougher. North offensive MVP and Clearfield alum Brady Collins ran for one of his three touchdowns to put the game away on a 41-yard run to snap the North’s three-game slide with 36-28 victory.

“He’s a great kid, a great athlete and he’s dedicated, and he works hard,” Collins’ high school and North coach, Myles Caragein, said. “He got to showcase his skills to all of these schools all over again. It was just fun to watch these kids be amazed by what he can do.”

South coach Chuck Kassick was honored to coach not only his own players in the game, but many of those he coached against, in addition to those who helped form this year’s South team.

“We had a lot of good players,” he said. “They adjusted and adapted so well to different things. Teaching at the high school level in athletics or academics, sometimes it’s a struggle. When you get into an all-star game, you got one rep, ‘we got it coach.'”

Caragein also shared the same enthusiasm for the guys that he had the privilege to lead.

“I know a couple of years ago we got chippy in 7-on-7 games with some of these kids,” he said. “This week was to show that they can come together and still be teammates. They’re competitive when they’re against each other, but when they’re with each other, they’re united and they pulled off a great win.”

The North tied the game in the fourth as Bellefonte’s Liam Halterman scored on an 8-yard run with a little less than 9 minutes to play. Danny Dixon (DuBois) accounted for a score of his own on the ground.

Bellwood-Antis’ Holden Schreier connected with Hollidaysburg’s Brady Steiner for the remaining South score in the second.

State College’s Darryl Lunon was the North squad’s Defensive MVP, while Connor Boreman was the South’s top defensive player.

The game’s scholarship winners from the Mirror Coverage area included Vincent Hoover (Juniata Valley), Austin Lucas (Tyrone), Schreier (Bellwood-Antis) and Jay Albarano (Hollidaysburg).

Caragein was named the North Coach of the Year by the CPFCA, while Nick Lovrich took home the South honor.

The North now holds an all-time lead in the series of 21-19.
