Boxers helping with charity
JOHNSTOWN — Pro fighters from the upcoming “Rumble By the River” boxing event will meet with fans and raise money for charity this Friday.
“Trigger” Tre’Sean Wiggins, Brandon “The Body” Watkins, and Jerome “The Thoroughbred” Baxter will appear during the meet-and-greet event at the Crow’s Nest, 510 Tire Hill Road, in Johnstown, this Friday from 4-8 p.m.
Wiggins will be fighting Dakota Linger for the WBA/NABA Welterweight title at Rumble By the River, which will be held Saturday, June 21, at the Frank J. Pasquerilla Conference Center in Johnstown. Baxter, of Pittsburgh, will be looking to improve upon his undefeated 5-0 record, while Watkins will be making his professional debut.
“Tre’Sean, Jerome and Brandon are all really exciting fighters,” Kastle Boxing manager Brock Kull said. “Some have very strong ties to the local community, so we hope to see a lot of support for them. We invite everyone to come out and get to know these tremendous young men, have some great food, and help a great cause in the process.”
Wiggins, currently the world’s 12th-ranked welterweight, trains out of Kastle Boxing in Johnstown and holds camp in York. The 35-year-old enters the event with a winning streak of five consecutive fights.
The Crow’s Nest will be donating a portion of food sales to the Arkadia Triangle Fund, a charity established by Boswell native Brian Watterson and his wife Jessica in 2019. The fund supports local, national and global non-profit organizations through financial contributions and orchestrated service efforts — raising more than $60,000 for local food pantries since 2021.
Watkins, also of Boswell, has worked to support the charity in the past, leading to a perfect opportunity to continue helping the community while promoting the June 21 fight.
“Brandon is a really sharp fighter with a promising career, but what’s just as impressive is the way he comes through for his community,” Kull said. “We’d love to see a big hometown crowd of his friends and family from Boswell and North Star come out to support him.”
Tickets for the event will also be available for purchase at the PCC, with a portion of ticket sales likewise benefiting the Arkadia Triangle Fund.
