BLAIRSVILLE — The Cambria Heights girls had the most success as a team and as individuals at the Heritage Conference Track and Field Championships held at River Valley High School on Tuesday.

The Lady Highlanders finished second in the team standings with 134.5 points, while Conemaugh Township was first with 147.

Savanna Hoover and Brielle McMillen claimed two first-place finishes to spark Heights.

Hoover won the 800 run in 2:28.13 and the 1600 run in 5:38.64; McMillen claimed the long jump at 16-10 and triple jump with a mark of 35-05.50.

Teammate Rachell McClellan established a new personal record by winning the 100 hurdles with a time of 15.88.

The Portage girls were in fifth place with 49 points.

On the boys side, Portage was in sixth place with 59 points which was one more than Cambria Heights’ who finished in seventh with 58. United was the team champion with 124 points.

The Mustangs’ Bode Layo was first in the high jump with a leap of 6-05, while also finishing second in the shot put (45-01.25) to Penns Manor’s Alex Polenik (54-09).

Portage’s Owen Gouse set a new personal best to win the 800 run with a time of 2:01.65, while the Highlanders’ Marshall Eckenrode claimed first in the 300 hurdles with a time of 41.90.

Lions sweep

Brionna Hudson established a new Altoona record in the high jump with a mark of 5-08.75 to lead the Altoona girls to wins over Carlisle (135-15) and Central Dauphin East (114-35) at Mansion Park.

The Mountain Lions also came out on top in both as they beat Carlisle (78-72) and Central Dauphin East (122-27).

Hudson, who also claimed first in the triple jump, broke the previous mark held by Rachel Gehret.

Kihlee Noel (shot put and discus) and Ashlyn Noce (800 run and 1600 run) were the other double winners for the Lady Lions.

Xavier Midder was victorious in three events for the boys as he won the 110 hurdles, long jump and triple jump.

Marauders fall

The Bishop Guilfoyle Academy high school boys volleyball team dropped a 25-18, 26-24, 25-19 decision at home to DuBois Tuesday night.

The Marauders (1-9)got 11 kills each from Justin Jiang and Karter Shall. Noah Kanish, Shall and Shall each had 11 digs while Leo Dangler added 10. Brenden Young contributed 27 assists.
