Avah Hassler
Name: Avah Hassler
High school: Bellwood-Antis
Hometown: Bellwood
Sport: Track and field
Position: Sprinter
College choice: Slippery Rock
Other colleges considered: Saint Francis, UPJ, Bloomsburg
Why I picked Slippery Rock: “I picked Slippery Rock because of its well-known strong academic programs, along with the opportunity for me to continue my track and field career at a high level. The environment I will be surrounded with, and the coaching staff, will allow me to grow to my full potential.”
Greatest high school achievement: “It would have to be when my friends and I, as juniors, decided to bring Mini-Thon back. Mini-Thon is an amazing cause that helps raise money for childhood cancer, and I couldn’t be prouder of all we’ve accomplished.”
Coach Jen Soisson: “Avah is someone who puts her heart into everything she does. She is a versatile athlete with a team mindset who has always been willing to compete in any event needed to achieve success as a team.”
How I got my start playing track and field: “I started running track and field in ninth grade. I first joined the sport to gain more friendships and stay in shape for volleyball, but little did I know I would fall in love with the sport. It continues to push me beyond what I think is possible and I can’t wait to continue my career for four more years.”
Favorite college growing up: Pitt
Other interests: Volleyball, spending time with my family, attending church and youth groups, working out, hiking, traveling
What getting to play in college means to me: “Getting to play in college is an absolute dream of mine, although I never thought it would be for track. I’m so unbelievably blessed that God has allowed me the abilities and the chance to glorify him in all that I do. Little me would be so entirely proud and I can’t thank my coaches and family enough for the endless support they’ve provided me.”
Probable college major: Undecided
Parents: Ryan and Kiley Hassler
