Cacciotti, offense key to BG win in District 6 baseball playoffs

COMMODORE — The Bishop Guilfoyle Academy baseball team opened up the District 6 Class 1A playoffs Thursday with a 9-1 win at Purchase Line in high school action.
The Marauders (5-13) will play at Northern Cambria on Monday in the quarterfinals at 4 p.m.
Winning pitcher Michael Cacciotti gave up just one hit, struck out 12 and walked five. He helped out his own cause with two hits and an RBI.
The Marauders got big games from Hamilton Gates and Lex Dixon, who each had two hits and two RBIs. Rocco Cacciotti and Josh Warmath each added two hits.

Bulldogs moving on
CLAYSBURG — Dustin Slowik pitched a three-hit shutout with seven strikeouts and only two walks as Claysburg-Kimmel beat Portage, 9-0, in the District 6 Class 1A playoffs.
The Bulldogs (11-10), who scored a combined eight runs in the fifth and sixth innings, will play at Homer-Center on Monday at 4 in the quarterfinals.
C-K got three hits and six RBIs from Mason Campagna, who had a double, a triple and a home run. Teammate Gavin Treon added three hits and scored three runs.
Portage (5-15) got two his from Easton Slanoc.

Lady Huskies fall
EBENSBURG – Bishop Carroll ended its season at 1-14 with a 17-3 loss in five innings to Chestnut Ridge in a regular-season high school softball game.
Adelyn Myers led the Lady Huskies with two hits, an RBI and a run scored.
The Lady Lions (12-6) got two hits and four RBIs from Saige Yarnell.
