Long sets meet record; Altoona runner-up

LOCK HAVEN — Altoona sophomore Jill Long jumped 38 feet, 5.5 inches in the triple jump to finish first place and break a Lock Haven High School Classic record in the event on Saturday.
Long also finished second in the long jump with a leap of 17 feet, 4.75 inches.
Branson Adams won the long jump in 22 feet, 2.25 inches and was third in the high jump, clearing 5 feet, 11 inches for the Altoona boys, and Colin Etters won the 200-meter dash in 22.32.
Several other Altoona athletes finished with top-eight performances.
Mary Stoltz was second in the 800-meter run with a season-best time of 2:18.74, Kihlee Noel was second in the shot put with a throw of 36 feet, 9 inches, and Ashlyn Noce was second in the 3200 in 11:12.52 and fifth in the 1600 in 5:14.31.
Emerson Snare was second in the 2000 meter steeplechase with a time of 8:17.72.
Back on the boys side, Mark Harrington placed in three events with a runner-up in the discus with a throw of 156 feet, 10 inches, leading the way. Harrington was third in the shot put at 48 feet, 7.25 inches and seventh in the javelin at 149 feet, 9 inches. Collin Lutz was second in the pole vault, clearing 13 feet, 6 inches.
Rocco Pacifico was fifth in the 300 hurdles in 42.28, and the Mountain Lions had a pair of eighth-place finishers in Justin Bossler in the 800 (2:04.27) and Seth Lieb in the 2000 steeplechase (6:57.79) to help the Altoona boys finish fourth behind champion State College in a field of 25 teams.
The Altoona girls were the runners-up 18.5 points behind champion State College in a 24-team field.
Sage Bowers finished third in the pole vault, clearing 9 feet, Annalyse Yost was third in the javelin with a throw of 117-6, and Triumph Kilmartin was third in the high jump, clearing 5 feet, 3 inches. Taylor Lear was seventh in that event, clearing 4-11. Megan Kelly was seventh in the javelin with a throw of 108-9.
Kilmartin was also fifth in the triple jump (36-6.25) just behind teammate Hannah Owulade (fourth, 36-7). Owulade was sixth in the long jump (16-8).
Alannah Irwin finished seventh in the 300 hurdles with a time of 48.95, and Adelyn Himmelwright placed eighth in the 400 with a time of 1:00.75.
NBC triumphs
McCONNELLSBURG — Mylee Mitchell threw a two-hitter while striking out 14 batters in a five-inning, 13-1 victory at McConnellsburg in a high school softball game on Saturday.
Mitchell also delivered two hits and drove in three runs. Ava Helsel had three hits, two runs and two RBIs. Kaylee Ebersole added two hits and three RBIs for the Lady Panthers.
