Lions will play Princeton in finals

PRINCETON, N.J. — The Penn State men’s volleyball team opened the EIVA Tournament Thursday night with a three-set victory over New Jersey Institute of Technology.

The Nittany Lions will play Princeton on Saturday for the EIVA title.

Penn State improved to 13-15, while NJIT finished at 14-13.

Matt Luoma led the way with 17 kills, while Gage Gabriel had an impressive hitting percentage of .700 on 10 attempts. The two accounted for much of Penn State’s offensive production.

Penn State held a team hitting percentage of .353 in the match, compared to NJIT’s .295. Its strong offensive performance helped it get through key stretches of the match.

Princeton is the No. 1 seed in the tournament. The game will be played at 5 p.m. at Dillon Gymnasium. The winner gets an automatic bid to the national tournament.

BOY tournament

The Altoona Mirror Bowler of the Year Tournament will be held at Holiday Bowl the first week of May.

The senior tournament will be held on Monday, May 5, at 1 p.m. The regular tournament will be held on Wednesday, May 7, at 7 p.m. You are asked to report 30 minutes in advance to sign up for the events.

Qualifications for the senior event include:

– member of a senior league.

– all bowlers must be 50 or older.

– men aged 50-69 with a 650 or higher series

– men age 70 or older with a 600 or higher series

– ladies age 50 or older with a 500 or higher series

Qualifications for the regular tournament include:

– adult men who have a 700 or higher series in a certified league

– adult ladies who have a 600 or higher series in a certified league
