Three Chestnut Ridge wrestlers win PIAA gold

Altoona’s Weaver takes bronze; Sipes falls in final

Chestnut Ridge’s Dom Deputy finally captured gold Saturday at the PIAA wrestling championships.

The junior defeated Faith Christian’s Gauge Botero by decision, 4-2, in the Class 2A 121 lb. championship bout and his third consecutive appearance in the finals.

On the girl’s side, Ridge teammates and sisters, sophomore Violette Lasure and freshman Juliet Alt, also won gold.

Lasure topped Sun Valley’s Jameson Strickland at 148 by technical fall, 15-0 in 5:39. Alt won in dramatic fashion at 155, defeating fellow local standout Raegan Snider of Northern Bedford by fall with just one second remaining.

In Class 3A, Altoona’s Braiden Weaver captured bronze by defeating Nicholas Salamone of Easton in a 4-3 decision in the consolation final. The Mountain Lions’ Luke Sipes took silver after losing in the 160 lb. final by 11-2 major decision to Quakertown’s Collin Gaj and Gavin Ciampoli finished 7th at 139 with a 3-2 decision over Central Dauphin’s C.J. Ferree.

Tyrone junior Kyle Scott finished fourth in Class 2A’s 189 lb. bracket, falling by 11-5 decision to Port Allegany’s Aiden Bliss.
