Hollidaysburg grad takes fifth at VMI

LORETTO — Vincent Franco, a junior member of the Saint Francis University track and field team, recently competed at the VMI Winter Relays in Lexington, Virginia.
A graduate of Hollidaysburg Area High School, Franco finished fifth in the weight throw with a mark of 15.58 meters. There were 22 competitors in the event.
The SFU team is at Liberty University this weekend.
Duo recognized
A pair of Penn State Altoona freshmen swept the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference’s weekly men’s volleyball awards, as outside hitter Jack McKenna was named the conference’s Offensive Player of the Week and libero Adam Chan was voted the Defensive Player of the Week.
Against Wilson College, McKenna had 12 points on eight kills, three service aces, and one solo block. The freshman followed that up with 11 points on 11 kills against Wilkes College, he then totaled 11.5 points on 10 kills, one solo block, and one block assist against St. Vincent later that day.
On the week, McKenna recorded 34.5 points (2.7 points per set), 29 kills (2.23 kills per set), three aces (0.23 aces per set), and three total blocks (0.23 blocks per set). He also compiled a solid .264 attack percentage.
Chan had a steady week at libero for the Lions, finishing with six digs against Wilson, nine digs against Wilkes, and a team-high 12 against St. Vincent. The freshman totaled 27 digs on the week and averaged 2.08 digs per set.
