Big Ten star gets national honor

Maryland forward Julian Reese is The Associated Press national player of the week in men’s college basketball.

The senior from Baltimore, Maryland, had career-highs of 27 points and 17 rebounds in leading the Terps to a rout of then-No. 17 Illinois on the road, then had 14 points and 10 boards in a win at Indiana.

J’Wan Roberts of No. 6 Houston was the runner-up after his key free throws at the end of regulation last week helped the Cougars beat then-No. 12 Kansas in double-overtime on the road.

No. 8 Vols upset at home by UK

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Koby Brea scored 18 points to lead No. 12 Kentucky to a 78-73 victory over No. 8 Tennessee. Jaxson Robinson added 17 points as the Wildcats snapped a two-game skid. Otega Oweh scored 14 and Amari Williams had 10 points and 15 rebounds. Igor Milicic led the Volunteers with 19 points and nine rebounds. Chaz Lanier scored 15 and Zakai Zeigler added 13.

No. 21 Cardinals cruise to win

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Terrence Edwards Jr. scored 18 points as No. 21 Louisville cruised to a 72-59 win over Wake Forest on Tuesday. A 12-0 run midway through the first half gave the Cardinals (16-5, 9-1 ACC) a 26-11 lead with 8:26 left and they led by 29 in the second half. Reyne Smith added 16 points, and Chucky Hepburn finished with 14 points and eight assists as Louisville extended its winning streak to 10 games.

No. 15 St. John’s rolls over Hoyas

WASHINGTON — Kadary Richmond and Zuby Ejiofor each scored 13 points as No. 15 St. John’s rolled to a 66-41 victory at Georgetown. The Red Storm have won seven in a row, their longest run of consecutive wins in Big East play since 2000. St. John’s improved to 18-3, its best start since opening the 1985-86 season 20-2 under Hall of Fame coach Lou Carnesecca.
