Good day for Long
LORETTO — Brooke Long, a junior member of the Saint Francis women’s track and field team, had two top 10 finishes at the Gulden Invitational held at Bucknell University.
An Altoona Area graduate, Long placed fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 11.21 meters. She finished seventh in the long jump with a mark of 5.20 meters.
The Red Flash women finished fifth out of 10 teams.
Cranford tops
LORETTO — Juan Cranford Jr, a member of the Saint Francis men’s basketball team, was named the Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week. It is the second time Cranford has won the honor this year.
He averaged 12.5 points and 5.0 rebounds per game in the two games. The freshman shot 50 percent from the floor, 50 percent from behind the arc and 83.3 percent (5-for-6) from the free throw line in the week.
McMullen shines
Penn State Altoona sophomore Hunter McMullen was named the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference’s Men’s Swimmer of the Week.
McMullen, a Central Cambria graduate, helped lead the Lions to a 3-0 week that consisted of wins over Lebanon Valley, Juniata and Elizabethtown.
Against LVC, he won the 100 butterfly while also being part of first-place finishes in the 200 medley relay, plus the 200 freestyle relay. Against Juniata and Elizabethtown, he earned top spots in the 100 butterfly and 50 butterfly, while also helping his team achieve wins in the 200 medley relay and freestyle relay.
