Altoona Gold falls in opener
Altoona Gold lost its opener in the Pennsylvania Babe Ruth 13-year-old Tournament Monday, falling 4-3 in 10 innings to Mifflin County, at Vets Field on Tuesday.
Altoona led 3-1 going into the seventh before Mifflin County scored two in the top half of the frame to tie it, and won it with a run in the 10th.
Altoona scored all three of its runs in the fourth. Montae Andrews and Justin Pfeffer both scored on double steals while Elliott McCloskey plated a run with a sacrifice fly. Pfeffer came off the bench to finish with two hits.
Mifflin County tied it in the seventh on a Blaze Schreffler sacrifice fly and a Karl Shirey single. A bases-loaded walk to Wyatt Parkes in the 10th brought home the eventual winning run.
Kyle Shupp led Mifflin County with three hits. Shirey got the win in relief while McCloskey was tagged with the loss.
Altoona Gold plays Altoona Maroon tonight at 7 in second-round action. Altoona Maroon played the late game Tuesday night and lost to Williamsport West End, 8-0.
Pier walks it off
BELLWOOD — Zach Pier singled home Vincent Cacciotti in the bottom of the seventh inning to give Martin Oil a 5-4 walk-off victory over Tyrone Legion in the George B. Kelley Federation.
Martin Oil scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to tie the game. Pier and Zach Miller each had two hits for Martin Oil.
Ryan Seeger and Owen Oakes had two hits each for Tyrone.

BEDFORD — Dalton Shaw had three hits and three RBIs, and Calvin Iseminger drove in four runs as Bedford defeated Hollidaysburg, 16-1, in a Cambria County Legion game.
The Hurricanes scored seven runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to end the game. Winning pitcher Trenten Mellott had seven strikeouts.
