Claysburg powers its way to victory
CLAYSBURG — Claysburg-Kimmel scored 11 runs in the first inning and cruised to a 17-2 three-inning victory over Northern Bedford in high school softball action on Friday.
Emalee Cavender and Sierra Walters each belted three-run homers, and Bella Francona drilled a two-run homer. Walters, the winning pitcher, added a double, single and three more RBIs, and McKenzi Black drove in a pair of runs.
Zakira Bush and Francona each went 2-for-3.

MORRISDALE — The Cambria Heights High School baseball team fell to 0-2 with a 7-0 setback to West Branch.
Zachary Tiracorda went 3-for4 with two triples and two RBIs and pitched five-plus shutout innings with 11 strikeouts for West Branch. Garrett Jasper went 2-for-2 for Heights.

SOMERSET — The Bedford Area High School girls basketball team was well represented on the 2021-22 all-Laurel Highlands Athletic Conference Selections for winter sports.
The Bedford girls won the LHAC championship and were honored with Blaine Shuke as coach of the year and players Natalie Lippincott and Sydney Taracatac earning all-LHAC selections.
Other girls basketball players honored were Bishop Guilfoyle’s Leah Homan, Central’s Katheryn Longenecker, Penn Cambria’s Marah Saleme, Central’s Cambria’s Abigail Sheehan, Bishop Carroll’s Savannah Smorto, Chestnut Ridge’s Belle Bosch, Forest Hills’ Remingtyn Smith, Bishop McCort’s Bailey Shriver, Johnstown’s Marissa Pridgen, Richland’s Isabella Burke, Somerset’s Gracie Bowers and Westmont Hilltop’s Olivia Berg.
Boys basketball champ Richland boasted Joel Kaminsky as coach of the year and players Trent Rozich and Kellan Stahl as all-LHAC selections.
Other boys basketball players honored were BG’s Patrick Haigh, Central’s Eli Lingenfelter, Penn Cambria’s Garrett Harrold, Central Cambria’s Hobbs Dill, Bishop Carroll’s Nate Dumm, Bedford’s Kevin Ressler, Chestnut Ridge’s Matt Whysong, Forest Hills’ Jeremy Burda, McCort’s Trystan Fornari, Johnstown’s Nyerre Collins, Somerset’s Aiden VanLenten and Westmont’s Austin Svencer.
LHAC wrestling champ Chestnut Ridge was represented by coach of the year Josh Deputy and wrestlers Ross Dull and Jack Moyer.
Others wrestlers honored included Central’s Jaxon Matthews, Penn Cambria’s Trent Hoover, Central Cambria’s Ethan Kubat, Bedford’s Cooper Lingenfelter, Forest Hills’ Easton Toth, McCort’s Devon Magro, Johnstown’s Marquan Tisinger, Richland’s Austin Syfert, Somerset’s Ethan Hemminger and Westmont’s Felice Panebianco.

CLAYSBURG — Brooks Snider had three hits and two RBIs, and Eion Snider had two hits and three RBIs to help the Northern Bedford High School baseball team top Claysburg-Kimmel, 7-4.
Pressten Imler, Landon Douglas and Dante Francona each had two hits for Claysburg.
