College signing

Erik Rhodes: UPJ baseball

Name: Erik Rhodes

High school: Altoona

Hometown: Altoona

Sport: Baseball

Position: Pitcher/outfield

College choice: UPJ

Other colleges considered: Slippery Rock

Why I picked UPJ: “Because of the atmosphere and it was not in a big city which I really liked. With getting to know the players and coaches, those are the guys I wanna spend my next four years with playing baseball at the collegitate level.”

Greatest high school achievement: “My first high school win as a varsity pitcher came in the Curve Classic against Huntingdon.”

Coach Tom Smith’s quote: “Erik has the potential to be a solid contributor for us this year both on the mound and with the bat. He has been working hard in order to have a successful senior year. I’m sure the coaching staff at UPJ sees the same things in Erik that we do at the high school level. If Erik can continue to put in the necessary work, he should be able to contribute at the next level.”

How I got my start playing baseball: “I would go to my brother’s Little League games when I was about 5 and pretty much fell in love with the game.”

Favorite college growing up: Penn State

Other interests: Golf, hanging out with friends, snowboarding and lifting

What getting to play in college means to me: “I am the first person in my family to play a college sport, which is pretty special. This is the sport that I have played ever since I was young and I am getting to continue it into my college career which is really cool.”

Probable college major: Business and finance

Parents: My mother, Corrie Brunner
