Bellwood grad receives NEC honor
LORETTO — Gregory Reddick, a member of the Saint Francis football team, was named Northeast Conference Defensive Rookie of the Year while eight other players added All-Northeast Conference selections to their college resume earlier this week.
In his first season of game action, Reddick had a conference-leading 11 total passes defended, which included 10 pass breakups and one interception. He added a team-leading two forced fumbles and ranked sixth on the team with 45 total tackles.
Running back Marques DeShields, defensive back Martin Foray, Jr. and place-kicker Alex Schmoke, a Bellwood-Antis graduate, were the three All-NEC first-team honorees.
Schmoke had a conference-leading 70 points scored, 15 converted field goals and had a second-best 47-yard long on the season. He converted six field goals of 40-plus yards and was 25-of-27 on extra points. Schmoke tied a single-game program record with five field goals against Merrimack. He earned two NEC Special Teams Player of the Week honors during the season.
DeShields ranked second in the conference with 767 total rushing yards, 995 all-purpose yards and added six total touchdowns.
Foray, Jr. had a conference-leading 102 total tackles, 11 more than second-best Ryan Saddler’s 91. He added one fumble recovery, one interception and four pass breakups. He had a career-high 15 tackles twice this season.
Wide receiver Kaherto Summers, offensive lineman Seth Osborne, defensive lineman Donnell Brown, punter Jordan Slaiby and return specialist Josh McGrigg were named to the All-NEC second team.
The 2021 Red Flash season finished with a 4-3 conference record and a 5-6 overall mark.
