Tyrone finishes up 6th at state meet

YORK — State College won the PIAA Class 3A boys golf championship in a playoff over Fox Chapel after both teams shot 8-over par in regulation.

Three-time District 6 Class 3A individual champion John Olsen led the way by shooting a 70, Max Wager carded a 72, Luke Janac shot 74 and Joey Sabol shot a 76 at the par 71 Heritage Hills Golf Resort.

The Little Lions and Fox Chapel finished seven strokes ahead of third-place finisher LaSalle College.

Tyrone finished in sixth place in the Class 2A field, two strokes behind Union City, with a team score of 346.

Mountain League MVP R.J. Royer led the way with an 81, three-time District 6 Class 2A girls champion Cassidy Miksich shot an 82, Cyrus Ahlert carded a 91 and Luke Brooks finished with a 92 for the Golden Eagles.

Devon Prep won the 2A boys title by nine strokes over Lewisburg.

On the girls side, Downingtown East defeated Peters Township by two strokes to win the PIAA Class 3A championship, and Hickory defeated Greensburg Central Catholic by 14 strokes to win the Class 2A state title. Westmont Hilltop finished sixth, one stroke behind Central Valley and got an 88 from Alyssa Kush.
