Shaffer reclaims record

PORTAGE — Lauren Shaffer reclaimed the Maple Crest Course record that she had lost to Penns Valley’s Anna Stitzer earlier this season with a time of 18:42 in her last time running the course at Portage on Wednesday in high school cross country.

The performance helped the Lady Mustangs top Somerset, 15-40.

Central Cambria rounded out the final nine spots in the top 10 with Annaliese Niebauer leading the way with a runner-up finish in 19:22.

On the boys side, Devon Morgan’s first-place time of 17:01 led Central Cambria to a 15-45 win over Somerset, but the Eagles did top Portage, 24-34.

Josh Canavan finished in eighth for the Mustangs in 18:13.

Both the Central Cambria boys and girls finished Laurel Highlands Athletic Conference play 12-0 and clinched the league title.

The Lady Mustangs finished the regular season 10-1, their best record in school history.

PC boys win two

CRESSON — Trey Talko won the boys individual race in 18:21 and led Penn Cambria to a 22-34 win over Forest Hills and an 18-39 triumph over Bishop McCort.

Tara Crynock’s fourth-place finish in 22:55 was Penn Cambria’s best time on the girls side in a 21-35 loss to Forest Hills, which got a first-place finish from Delaney Dumm in 19:13.
