Lady Tigers win crown

SPRING MILLS — The Hollidaysburg girls placed five runners in the top 20 and captured the Mountain League cross country championship at Penns Valley High School on Wednesday.

Lilly Clayton led the way with a sixth-place finish in 23 minutes, 7 seconds, Seddy Clapper was eighth (23:19), Maddie Shanafelt was 10th (23:46), Alli Burk was 12th (24:28) and Cece Williams was 19th (25:35).

Anna Stitzer of Penns Valley won the race in 19:09, and Tyrone’s Beth Pearson finished fifth in 22:49.

Bellefonte won the boys’ title by placing five runners in the top 10. Philipsburg-Osceola’s Chad Muckey won the individual title in 16:34 and was followed by Hollidaysburg’s Chris Love and Ben Love.

B-A boys take ICC

MOUNT UNION — The Bellwood-Antis boys won the cross country team title in the Inter-County Conference championships.

Backed by Caedon Poe’s third-place finish, Bellwood scored 50 points to Mount Union’s 85.

The Juniata Valley girls, with Morgan Hess winning the race, won the team title as well with 31 points to Bellwood’s 96. Northern Bedford’s Savannah Harshberger placed second, followed by Valley’s Ella McCrum and Madison Sneath.

BOALSBURG — Glendale notched a 25-18, 25-17, 25-12 victory over Saint Joseph’s Academy in high school girls volleyball.

Sam Cherry had 12 service points for Glendale.

MILL HALL — Central Mountain downed Altoona, 29-27, 25-22 21-25, 25-23 in girls volleyball.

Kaylee Smith led Altoona with 14 kills, Aunye Counsman had 37 digs, and Evy Stroup had 22 assists.

TYRONE — Tyrone downed Penns Valley, 24-26, 25-21, 25-14, 25-18, to improve to 8-5 in girls volleyball on Tuesday.

Maddy Rockwell had 35 assists and 13 service points for the Lady Eagles to go with 10 service points from Elaina Gelhman. Reagan Irons also had 16 digs and 13 kills.
