Bedford duo qualify for states

ORE HILL — Bedford’s Matt Tokarczyk defeated teammate Matt Edwards in a playoff to win the District 5 Class 2A individual high school boys golf championship Tuesday at Iron Masters after both golfers shot an 80.

Tokarczyk and Edwards both qualified for states in York at Heritage Hills Golf Resort on Oct. 18.

Their scores also helped the Bisons win the team title, 332-340, over Conemaugh Township. Bedford will take on Tyrone in a PIAA subregional back at Iron Masters on Oct. 13 for the right to play in the PIAA team championship on Oct. 25.

Conemaugh Township freshman Alex Boring won the District 5 girls title, but her score of 102 wasn’t low enough to qualify her for the PIAA championship.

Central wins two

SALIX — Central’s Nick Baum carded a 40 to help the Scarlet Dragons pick up wins over Richland (208-228) and Forest Hills (208-242) at the Windber Country Club.

Central finished with the best record in the Laurel Highlands Ahletic Conference during the regular season.

The championship will be held today at Summit Country Club.

CENTRAL (208): Baum 40, J. Snowberger 41, T. Oakes 41, Z. Oakes 42, Brumbaugh 44.

RICHLAND (228): Huss 39, Artim 43, Farkas 45, Colbert 50, Pollino 51.

FOREST HILLS (242): Shrift 45, Cruley 46, Gould 50, Sorchilla 50, Morrison 51.
