Area women finish marathon

Mary Kowalski, of Hollidaysburg, competed in the Boston Marathon on Monday and finished the race in 3:27.46.

She was among 15,374 runners. In her age group (50-54), her time was 32nd out of 880.

Carly Port, a graduate of Altoona Area High School, also competed in the race and finished in 3:28.00.

Penn State Altoona sophomore Trey Heffelfinger recently received Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Golfer of the Week honors.

Heffelfinger, a Mount Union graduate, led Penn State Altoona at the Mason-Dixon Collegiate Classic, hosted by McDaniel College last weekend at The Bridges Golf Club in Abbottstown.

Ryne Talko helped the Grove City College men’s tennis team win the B1 Doubles title at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Southeast Championships.

Talko, a Bishop Guilfoyle grad, teamed up with Karsten Lagerquist to earn a win over Salisbury University’s Chris Catan and Mitch Dessman, 8-6, in the semifinals, then beat Franklin & Marshall’s Tony Casale and Pedro Notre, 8-6, in the finals.
