Playing on their home course, the team of Chris Perry and Mike Macionsky put in a strong performance to capture the Scotch Valley Invitational, the area’s last best-ball tournament of the season.

Played in match-play format, Perry and Macionsky advanced to Sunday afternoon’s final match by defeating the Down River team of Brad Swindell and Tracey Smith during the day’s morning matches.

“Our semifinal match was really close,” Perry said. “We were only able to pull ahead after Mike made a good putt on No. 17, and I was able to birdie the last.”

Their morning victory secured Perry and Macionsky a spot in the championship match against the strong duo of Artie Fink Jr. and Todd Homan, who count five previous Scotch Valley titles among their many victories.

The early holes in the afternoon finale went back and forth with Perry & Macionsky finishing the front nine with a slim 1-up lead.

“We were able to get off to a great start on the back-nine by winning the 10th, 11th and 13th holes,” Macionsky said. “And we were able to hold on after that.”

With a 4-up lead, Macionsky was able to two-putt for par on the 15th hole, matching their opponent and winning the championship, 4&3.

“Playing against Artie and Todd is great,” Macionsky said. “They are both such great players, and they keep the atmosphere nice and loose.”

This weekend’s victory was the second team title Perry and Macionsky for this season. They hadn’t won as a team since 2018, which led the duo to recalling their self-appointed nickname.

“The ‘gruesome two-some’ is back,” Perry said.
