College signing: Lane Macy: Chatham track and field, cross country

Name: Lane Macy

High school: Portage Area

Hometown: Portage

Sport: Track and field and cross country

Position: Distance runner

College choice: Chatham

Other colleges considered: Pitt-Johnstown

Why I picked Chatham: “Ever since I could remember I wanted to be an architect, and Chatham’s majors and schooling options will help me reach that goal. I have also had the goal of running in college since I was in seventh grade — I will get to live out this dream at Chatham.”

Greatest high school achievement: “Being an integral member that led Portage to winning its first WestPAC championship.”

Coach Lance Hudak’s quote: “Lane was one of the original members of our boys cross country team and developed into a strong, committed runner and a fantastic leader for our program. Our loss is truly Chatham’s gain. The Cougars are getting an upstanding student-athlete who will help them immediately.”

How I got my start in track and field: “Being honest, Coach Hudak came to me my seventh grade year and said, “Hey, we need someone to run the mile and 2-mile.” After that, I fell in love with running distance, and the rest is history.”

Favorite college growing up: Pitt

Other interests: Hanging out with friends, playing video games, hunting, fishing

What getting to play in college means to me: “Since I was in seventh grade, it’s been my dream to run in college. This is a dream come true, and I would like to thank my coaches, teammates and parents for pushing me to get to the position I am at today.”

Probable college major: “I will be dual-majoring in interior architecture and immersive media.”

Parents: Shawn Macy, Jenette Macy
