Bellwood boys win ICC title

BELLWOOD — The Bellwood-Antis boys won the team championship in the Inter-County Conference Championship Meet on Thursday at Bellwood-Antis High School’s Memorial Stadium.

Outstanding thrower Joe Wertz led the Blue Devils with victories in the shot put and discus, and outstanding jumper Zach Mallon placed first in the long jump.

The Bellwood 1600-meter relay team of Hunter Shawley, Cooper Keen, Sean Mallon and Kenny Robison also prevailed.

Bellwood finished with 110 points to beat out Southern Huntingdon (97.5) and Northern Bedford (93). Southern’s Kadin Moore was the outstanding runner with wins in the 100, 200 and 400 dashes.

Ian Zimmerman won the 800 and 1600 runs for the Northern boys, Connor Laird won the 3200 run, Mason Detterline won the triple jump, and the Panthers’ 3200 relay team also triumphed.

Juniata Valley, behind outstanding runner Morgan Hess and outstanding jumper Emma Zinobile, won the girls’ team title with 97 points to beat out Northern Bedford (81.33) and Bellwood (75.33).

Northern Bedford’s 3200 relay team of Ashley Kichman, Mariah Hall, Adi Sipes and Emilee Sherlock placed first, as did Bellwood’s Lydia Worthing in the pole vault.

McConnellsburg’s Alexis Hoover was the outstanding girls thrower.
