Tigers’ Barton will play for title

The top two seeds, Central Mountain’s David Lindsay and Hollidaysburg’s Nathan Barton, will meet for the District 6 Class 3A high school tennis championship today at noon after both won their quarterfinal and semifinal matches on Tuesday at Mansion Park.

Lindsay defeated Altoona’s Nick Schimminger, 6-0, 6-0, in the semifinals after Schimminger had defeated C.J. Doebler of Shikellamy and Hollidaysburg’s Brian Johnson earlier in the day.

Barton knocked off Williamsport’s Kyle Shuler in the semifinals, 6-2, 6-2, and topped Altoona’s Kyle Murray in the quarterfinals. Murray had beaten Shikellamy’s Luke Fatol in the first round.

Richland’s Vigmesh Elangovan will take on Juniata’s Max Lauver for the Class 2A championship at noon on another court.

Lions swept

MECHANICSBURG — Undefeated Cumberland Valley swept Altoona by scores of 25-16, 25-17, 25-15.

Garrett Baumgartner had six kills, three service points and eight digs for the Mountain Lions, and Sam Kessinger finished with 10 assists.

Noah Anderson had nine kills and seven digs to go with six digs and two service points from Nick Anderson.
