Lady Pirates strong in 7th

BELLWOOD — Williamsburg fell behind 5-0 but rallied back and scored two runs in the seventh inning to edge Bellwood-Antis, 7-5, in high school softball action on Tuesday.

Elizabeth Frederick went 3-for-4 with two RBIs for the Lady Pirates, Ashley Brubaker went 3-for-4, and Kendel Norris and Laney Prough each added two hits.

Frederick came on in relief of Kara Lansberry in the third inning and fired five shutout innings with nine strikeouts.

Katie Robinson and Gabriela Finn each had two hits for Bellwood-Antis.

Lady Tigers split

PUNXSUTAWNEY — Zoie Estep homered, doubled and singled for Hollidaysburg in an 11-10 victory over Punxsutawney in the first game of a doubleheader.

Maria Malone, who was the winning pitcher in the first game, had two hits, including a double, for the Lady Tigers in the second game, but Punxsutawney held on for a 4-2 victory.

PATTON — Paige Jones sparkled in the circle and in the batter’s box in helping Cambria Heights down Richland, 7-1.

Jones fired a two-hitter, striking out 12, and allowed one run on a solo homer. She also smacked a triple and a single and drove in a run.

Lexi Griak added two hits for Heights, now 6-1.

Chloe McElheny led the Lady Viking offense by going 5-of-6 and driving in a run. Lilley Vereshack and Riley Best each collected two hits and two RBIs, Kyla Campbell had three hits, and Caitlyn Rydbom, Kelly Kasaback and Alyssa Sinclair each had two hits

Campbell, Hanna Noel and Best combined to give up just six hits.
