Blair rugby team sweeps State

HOLLIDAYSBURG — The Blair United/Hollidaysburg boys and girls rugby teams swept State College this past Sunday at Tiger Stadium, with the girls winning 20-10 and the boys scoring a 24-5 victory.
In the girls game, Ashley Helmer started the scoring with a 10-yard run, followed by an Aubrie Sipes try to make the score 10-0. Up 10-5 at one point, BU/Hollidaysburg got a score out of Olivia Knab to make it 15-5. Sarra Wilkins, from her scrumhalf position, increased the lead to 20-5 with a bruising try before State scored to set the final.
On the boys side, BU/Hollidaysburg got big efforts from Matthias Baillet, Creed Norris, Brendan Andrews, Rocco Grassi and Elijah Ransom in a 24-5 win. Andrews totaled two conversions while Ransom, a freshman, scored on a try.
BU/Hollidaysburg also had an exhibition game played by its new junior high boys team, which lost to State College.
This weekend, the girls will compete in a tournament in West Virginia, while the boys team plays at Indiana. The junior high team is at Moon.
