Flash prevail again

SMITHFIELD, R.I. — Backed by local products Karson Swogger and Lili Benzel, the Saint Francis University women’s basketball team extended its win streak to eight games with a 70-66 win over Northeast Conference foe Bryant on Friday afternoon at Chance Athletic Center.

The win completed a two-game sweep of the Bulldogs after a 67-56 victory on Thursday.

Swogger, a Bellwood-Antis High School graduate, buried a 3-pointer on the Flash’s first possession of the game en route to an 11-3 lead in the opening quarter.

Swogger finished with a game-high 20 points and also led Saint Francis with five assists. Bishop Guilfoyle Catholic graduate Benzel contributed 18 points.

The Flash held a 35-34 halftime lead and then scored the first seven points of the third quarter and never trailed again. Bryant cut the deficit to two points three times in the last three minutes of the game, but Saint Francis did not give up the lead.

Saint Francis hosts Mount St. Mary’s at 6 p.m. on Tuesday.
