Flash go overtime in loss to Knights

LORETTO — Elyjah Williams had a career-high 28 points and Fairleigh Dickinson overcame a 17-point second-half deficit to beat St. Francis, 94-92, in overtime on Tuesday night.

The Knights trailed 53-36 with 16:28 to play, but took their first lead with about two minutes remaining. Maxwell Land hit a jumper with 1:08 remaining for the Red Flash to force overtime tied at 80.

The Knights jumper out to a five-point lead in overtime and held on for the win. Jahlil Jenkins had 17 points for Fairleigh Dickinson (3-8, 2-3 Northeast Conference). Brandon Powell added 11 points and six rebounds. John Square Jr. had 10 points. Joe Munden Jr. had 10 points and 10 rebounds.

The 94 points were a season best for Fairleigh Dickinson and Saint Francis.

Ramiir Dixon-Conover had 20 points and five steals for the Red Flash (3-9, 2-6). Myles Thompson added 19 points and seven rebounds. Bryce Laskey had 16 points.

“It was certainly a hard-fought game between two Northeast Conference teams,” Saint Francis coach Rob Krimmel said. “I give (FDU coach) Greg (Herenda) and his team a lot of credit; they made the final play and a few more plays down the stretch than we did. I was pleased with the way our guys came out to play the game and to play the second half, but we’ve got to put 40 minutes together.”

The two get back at it this afternoon with tipoff at 4.

GAME NOTES: Saint Francis drops to 47-49 all-time against Fairleigh Dickinson. … The overtime session was Saint Francis’ first since Nov. 8, 2019 at Richmond. Prior to that, the Red Flash played four overtime games in the 2017-18 season, going 3-1 with wins over Niagara, Bryant, and Central Connecticut. … Tuesday’s game was originally scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 15, and was made up as part of the first Northeast Conference make-up window. …SFU redshirt freshman Josh Cohen added six rebounds in 13 minutes off the bench. … Both teams were 33-of-68 (48.5%) from the field.
