Marauders advance to semifinals

The Bishop Guilfoyle girls volleyball team advanced to the semifinals of the District 6 1A playoffs Tuesday night, thanks to a 23-25, 25-19, 25-20, 25-21 win over Purchase Line in high school action at the Pleasant Valley gym.

Lyzee Wilson led the Lady Marauders with 24 kills, 14 digs and 13 service points to go with 27 digs and five service points from Jaedynb Montler. Teammate Teresa Haigh added 13 digs, 11 kills and 11 service points while Abby Yahner contributed 10 service points.

“I’m so proud of this group of talented players,” BG coach Cortnie Partner said. “They work hard and come together when needed. We are looking forward to the semifinals. I know they will give it their all and that’s all I could ask for.”

BG (12-3) will play at West Shamokin Thursday night in the semifinals.

AAHS icers win

JOHNSTOWN — Altoona jumped out to a 2-0 lead after one period Tuesday night en route to an 8-4 win over Conemaugh Valley in high school ice hockey action at the First Summit Arena @ Cambria County War Memorial.

It was the season opener for the Mountain Lions.

Altoona got two goals and two assists from Parker Cumming to go with solo goals from Dylan Vipond, Brady Sassano, Joseph Spewock, Jakob Jones, Colin Monahan and Tyler Earnest. Sassano and Vipond also each had an assist.

Goalie Jon Edmundson stopped 21 shots in the win.

Altoona hosts Bishop McCort Thursday at 8:15 p.m. at Galactic Ice.
