ICC will delay start of winter sports

The Inter-County Conference school districts have met and determined that in the interest of student and staff safety amid increasing numbers of COVID-19 cases in all communities, all winter sports practices will be delayed and shall begin on Monday, Dec. 14. The first competition date for all conference member schools will be Monday Jan. 4.

PIAA requires all schools to have 15 days of practices (including scrimmage days) prior to the first competition in any sport at any level. ICC Schools may scrimmage after five practice days. Even if ICC member schools complete the required 15 practice days earlier than Jan. 4, there will be no competitions until Monday, Jan. 4.

Following the opinion of several ICC school solicitors, the mask order for competitors is enforceable and as of now will be followed. When more information on the masking order is provided to school districts, the ICC and all member school will pass that information along. Two other school districts on Friday — Hollidaysburg and Portage — also announced that they are not starting their winter sports season until January.
