Guilfoyle volleyball eliminated

RURAL VALLEY — The Bishop Guilfoyle girls volleyball team was eliminated from the District 6 1A playoffs Thursday night, losing to West Shamokin, 25-22, 25-17, 25-23 in the semifinals.

Guilfoyle, which finished 12-4, got 13 kills and 13 digs from Lyzee Wilson to go with 32 assists, 10 digs and six service points from Abby Yahner.

West Shamokin will face top-seeded West Branch in the final at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Central Cambria High School in Ebensburg.

Bedford claims title

WINDBER — Unbeaten Bedford won the District 5 Class 2A boys soccer championship with a 4-0 win over Chestnut Ridge at Windber Area High School.

Cole Taylor and Josh Diehl each had a goal and assist for the 16-0 Bisons, and Chase Bussard and Tim Crist each added a goal.

Bedford will begin play in the PIAA playoffs on Tuesday against District 9 champ Karns City.

Lions falter

JOHNSTOWN — The Altoona Area High School ice hockey team dropped to 1-1 Thursday night, losing 8-0 to Bishop McCort at 1st Summit Arena@War Memorial Arena.

Bishop McCort scored four goals in the first period and four in the second period.

Altoona goalie Jon Edmundson faced 26 shots and stopped 18.

The Mountain Lions play again next Thursday, Nov. 12, at 8:15 p.m. at Galactic Ice against Richland.
