Taylor finishes 15th

YORK — North East’s Isaiah Swan drained a 30-foot birdie putt on the first playoff hole to edge Scranton Prep’s Matthew Tressler for the PIAA Class 2A boys golf title at Heritage Hills Golf Resort on Monday.
Both golfers shot rounds of 2-under par 69 through their first 18 holes.
Tyrone senior Jake Taylor shot an 8-over par 79 to finished tied for 15th in the field of 48 golfers.
Taylor said after qualifying for the PIAA championships at the District 6 championship at Scotch Valley that his goal was to break 80 at states.
“I hit my irons probably the best I’ve ever hit them today,” Taylor said. “I was happy to post a respectable score to finish my high school golf career.”
West Shamokin’s Eric Spencer finished tied for eighth with a 5-over par 76, and his teammate Jack McCullough finished tied for 42nd.
Bedford’s Matthew Edwards finished in a tie for 23rd after carding an 81.
Huntingdon’s Brady Handy ended up tied for 26th with an 82, and his Bearcats teammate Ryan Marshall shot a 96.
Rockwood’s Vileska Gelpi won her first PIAA Class 2A girls golf championship after finishing as runner-up twice by carding a 2-over par 74. The senior’s score was two shots better than Warrior Run’s Hannah Rabb.
Two-time District 6 champion Cassidy Miksich finished 18th in the 24-player field and shot a 90. Central Cambria senior and Laurel Highlands Athletic Conference champion Megan Stevens finished 21st with a 97.
Westmont Hilltop’s Alyssa Kush shot a 98, and Clearfield’s Christina McGinnis carded a 100.
