NB girls soccer gets upset win

BERLIN — Fifth-seeded Northern Bedford upset fourth-seeded Berlin Brothersvalley, 2-1, in the District 5 Class 1A high school girls soccer playoffs Wednesday.

Abbie Kline and Sidney Coffey scored for the Lady Panthers.

“It was a hard-fought game, and Berlin got on the board first,” Northern Bedford coach Barb Zanella said. “We came on strong and controlled the rest of the first half. We got a beautiful cross by Ashley Kichman, and Sidney Coffey tied it, and for the remaining part of first half, we beat them to the ball.”

After Lydia Ritchey’s assist on Kline’s goal put Northern Bedford ahead, the Lady Panthers’ defense did the rest.

“In the second half, it was back and forth,” Zanella said. “But Evie Long stepped up and was spectacular for us and made some great saves. She stayed strong worked through the ball.”

The Lady Panthers will take on top-seeded Fannett-Metal in the next round.
