BG girls come up short in LHAC final

EBENSBURG — Forest Hills downed Bishop Guilfoyle Catholic, 25-13, 25-21, 25-16, in the Laurel Highlands Athletic Conference girls volleyball championship match on Thursday night at Bishop Carroll Catholic High School.

Madeline Cecere led Forest Hills with 16 kills.

Lyzee Wilson led BG with 16 kills, Teresa Haigh had 10 kills, Erin Yahner contributed five blocks, and Jaedyn Montler added 23 digs.

BC tops Glendale

FLINTON — Bishop Carroll lost the first set but came back to beat Glendale, 18-25, 25-23, 25-17, 25-13.

Olivia Reese led Glendale with 17 kills, Alyssa Sinclair delivered 16 service points, and Bailee Wimberly had 22 assists.

Portage prevails

PORTAGE — Portage received seven kills apiece from Julia Papcun and Kylie Burger in beating Conemaugh Valley, 25-22, 25-13, 25-16.

Kayley Sossong had 22 assists for Portage, and Keira Sossong had 22 digs.

AAHS cancels matches

Altoona had its match on Thursday against Mifflin County and Saturday’s match with Tyrone canceled due to COVID-19.

According to a press release, an individual associated with the Altoona volleyball team tested positive for COVID-19, and the Department of Health was notified. As a result, members of the team will quarantine for 14 days and the remaining regular-season games were canceled.

A district-wide notification was sent to all AASD families. Those individuals directly involved were contacted directly. The district reported that AASD maintenance staff were scheduled to fully sanitize and disinfect the gymnasium and common areas of the building Thursday.

Elsewhere:

n Bedford advanced to the District 5 Class 2A final with a 3-1 win over North Star in the semifinals.

n Chestnut Ridge beat Everett, 3-2, to move on to face Bedford in the D5-2A final.

n Tussey Mountain lost in the District 5 Class 1A playoffs to Fannett-Metal, 25-19, 25-19, 25-15.
