Altoona advances into final

Altoona and State College will meet today in a rematch of last year’s District 6 Class 3A team tennis championship at the same site.

Altoona won the team title last year with a 3-0 win over the Lady Little Lions in State College, and the two teams will play on the same courts at 4 p.m. today for the 2020 title.

Altoona advanced with a 4-1 win over Central Mountain in the semifinals on Monday at Mansion Park. Isabella Frank and Morgan Stevens won at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively, and Emma Skelley and Eve Hogan, and Brooklynn Rupert and Mya Crownover won the two doubles matches.

SINGLES: 1, Frank, A, def. Carpenetti, 6-1, 6-1; 2, Stevens, A, def. Anastos, 6-0, 6-3; 3, Kwaitek, CM, def. Neil, 6-7, 6-2, 10-4.

DOUBLES: 1, Skelley-Hogan, A, def. Dale-Talbot, 6-0, 6-2; 2, Rupert-Crownover, A, def. Long-Blesh, 6-1, 6-2.

State tops Lady Tigers

STATE COLLEGE — Top-seeded State College advanced to today’s 3A final against Altoona with a 4-0 win over Hollidaysburg.

Catelyn Janac and Marissa Xu won singles matches for State College.

SINGLES: 1, Rhodes, H, led Guo, 7-5, 3-1; 2, Janac, SC, def. Jodon, 6-1, 6-1; 3, Xu, SC, def. Lieb, 6-1, 6-1.

DOUBLES: 1, Ahrestani-Ramesh, SC, def. Waibel-Lasek, 6-1, 6-2; 2, Miller-Butterbaugh, SC, def. McKee-Gallagher, 6-2, 6-2.

Records: Hollidaysburg (5-4); State College (7-0).

CC girls to face Westmont

EBENSBURG — Central Cambria earned a spot in today’s District 6 Class 2A final with a 4-1 win over Bishop Guilfoyle in the semifinals at the Ebensburg Tennis Center.

Olivia Ratchford and Corinne Markovich won singles matches, and Lily Persio won by forfeit at No. 3 singles. Malia Kutchman and Lauren Vermeulin prevailed at No. 2 doubles.

BG received its points from a doubles win by Marissa Hopper and Julia Runk.

Central Cambria will play at top-seeded Westmont Hilltop for the title today.
