Altoona wins Ryder Cup-style event over Hollidaysburg

Altoona defeated Hollidaysburg, 14-10, in a Ryder Cup-style competition at Park Hills Golf Course on Monday afternoon in high school golf action.

The teams competed in 24 nine-hole matches to decide the winning team. Each team played 12 players and each player competed in two matches.

Lucas Muffie, Marcus Lucas, Landon Baker and Jordan Lestochi each won two points for the Mountain Lions. Derek Clapper and Jack Aigner captured two points each for the Golden Tigers.

LEWISTOWN — Altoona’s Isabella Frank, Morgan Stevens and Emily Neil won their singles matches in a 5-0 sweep of Mifflin County in girls high school tennis action.

Eve Hogan and Mya Crownover teamed up to win at No. 1 doubles, and Brooklynn Rupert and Meg Keating triumphed at No. 2 doubles.

Tyrone tops Central

TYRONE — Tyrone defeated Central, 5-2, by sweeping the singles matches in its Mountain League contest in girls tennis action.

Victoria Reese, Rachel Stricek, Lydia Irvin, Ashlee Walk and Isabella Rhoades all won singles matches for the Lady Eagles.

The teams of Violet Smith and Madison Kennedy and Adacyn James and Kaylee Cole won in doubles for the Lady Dragons.

Tyrone improved to 3-2.

Central Cambria cruises

EBENSBURG — Central Cambria swept Richland, 5-0, and got singles wins from Olivia Ratchford, Corinne Markovich and Sophia Devan.

Lily and Ella Persio won at No. 1 doubles, and Malia Kutchman and Lauren Vermeulin won at No. 2 doubles for the 4-0 Lady Devils, who are now 4-0.
