Saint Francis football report date pushed back
LORETTO — Saint Francis University football players were scheduled to report to campus for workouts Sunday, but that date has been pushed back according to sports information director Taylor Powers.
Powers said it was the Northeast Conference’s decision, not the school’s, and that the decision was motivated by the conference’s teams in the New York area being under tighter restrictions.
A call to the NEC corporate office for comment on the delay was not returned Thursday.
The Red Flash have several local players listed on their 2020 roster including Bishop Guilfoyle Catholic graduates Mark Conrad and Paul Liebal, Bellwood-Antis graduates Alex Schmoke and Tanner Wyland, Bishop Carroll Catholic graduate Geno Lauer and Central graduate Thad Albright.
Powers said as of Thursday, Saint Francis was still planning to play at Richmond in its opener on Sept. 3. The Red Flash play at Buffalo the next week, the school’s first-ever game against an FBS opponent and one that will earn Saint Francis a sizable payout.
Saint Francis is also still planning to hold the Red Flash Football Golf Tournament, an 18-hole scramble at the Summit Country Club in Cresson, on July 24 at 10 a.m.
