AAHS announces signings

Local digest

Altoona Area High School recently honored several student-athletes who will heading to college in the fall and will play a sport at a Division II or Division III school.

The ceremony was held outside last week.

Among the seniors honored were Alese Rinker, who is headed to Bloomsburg University to play tennis, Alex Berardinelli, who is going to Juniata College and playing soccer, Brady Freiwald, who is going to Lock Haven to play soccer, Micah Hamilton, who is headed to Penn State Altoona to play volleyball, and Rusty Focht, who is going off to Millikan University for swimming.

Senior basketball players also recognized were P.J. Charles (Juniata), and K.J. Futrell, Caleb Pierce and Tyler Becker (Penn State Altoona).

In addition, girls track standout Gianna Caputo and soccer player Freiwald were presented the District 6 Dean Rossi Sportsmanship Award.

Hole-in-one

TYRONE — Jim Ray sank a hole-in-one at Sinking Valley Country Club on Saturday.

Ray aced the No. 10 hole while playing with Jim Osborn, Wes Lyons and Tony Roscia.
